I've often wondered if you can prepare buttermilk biscuits in advance. Yesterday I asked Jeff if he wanted biscuits with the fried chicken and hot slaw I had planned for supper and made the mistake of asking him in front of Nathan, who eats at 5 (we eat around 8, so Nathan usually gets something lunch/snack-y for supper and our leftovers for lunch). "I want biscuits please!" So I made two biscuits for Nathan and left the rest on a baking sheet in the fridge til our suppertime, figuring there's no such thing as a BAD buttermilk biscuit so how wrong could it go? Ha.
Maybe you can make biscuits ahead (don't cut them until you bake them, perhaps? Let them come to room temperature before baking?) but that was not the way to do it. They burnt on the bottom and the butter melted out and everywhere. The biscuits Nathan had were perfect- flaky and rich. These were disastrous, heavy and sodden.

Biscuits are a quick bread, and it's hard to delay the leavening action from baking powder and soda unless you've got the ability to flash-freeze, and even then it'd be iffy without commercial stabilizers.
Probably better to bake all at once, and then refrigerate (as airtight as possible) leftovers quickly. They'll still not be as flaky as fresh from the oven, but leftover biscuits have their own charm and I think an interesting flavor.
I knew there was some science-y reason it wouldn't work!
I do like leftover biscuits toasted and spread with jam; just not with supper. It's probably for the best that you can't make them in advance or I'd make a ton and have them all the time.
I've had very good results freezing uncooked scones -- I freeze them right away on a baking sheet, then transfer them to a plastic bag once they're frozen. When I want to bake them, they go directly into the oven, and usually take just two or three minutes more. Biscuits and scones are pretty similar, so it's worth trying. I can't tell you how awesome (and dangerous) it is to be able to have a fresh-baked scone almost instantly whenever I want one.
